16 hands. He last raced on 7/15/23 and retired with a broken right front sesamoid. He is currently turning out with other geldings and does very well. He will do best when turned out 24/7. He will get stiff if left in a stall for more than a few hours due to a stifle issue that will lock up.
Ira is an energetic and kind fellow. He loves all-over currying and scratches and will groom you back. Relationship building is important with Ira – he will repay time spent grooming and in ground work with better performance under saddle.
This horse is a trail machine! Walk, trot and canter – hills, valleys, soggy ground, woods, etc. – Ira is your man. He is exceptionally brave and interested in covering new ground at the pace you set. He is lots of fun in the arena too, for any rider who like a forward horse. Ira can be nervous when beginning arena work, but a confident rider can help him through this and have a productive ride every time.
Ira is suitable for any disciple on the flat, or for up to starter level eventing. He is not suitable for polo, barrels or poles.
