Chovanes

10 year old thoroughbred gelding bred in KY
Colonel John (Tiz Now) out of Joyance by Pulpit
Eligible for the Retired Racehorse Project's
THOROUGHBRED MAKEOVER COMPETITION!

16 plus hands. He last raced on 9/4/22 and retired with an old possible left front fetlock fracture that is now healed. He does have mild arthritis in his left hock that does not bother him.

Chovanes has traveled back home to KY from Puerto Rico where he raced for 2 years. He has been off the track for a year and restarted. He has settled right into our farm and was turned out his first day here with 2 other geldings and did just fine. He isn’t too energetic and gets along with his buddies. He is quiet in the stall and is good for grooming and working with. He is a cribber that is controlled with a strap.

Chovanes is suitable for any discipline and seems to enjoy a job. He is brave over poles and listens well to what is being asked of him. He has a nice forward trot and canter, good mind and kind dispostion. Chovanes is very forward and has a lot more go than whoa. He wants to do something and not just take a lazy walk. He will need a confident rider with experience.
