Cathkin Peak (IRE)

8 year old thoroughbred gelding bred in IRE
Alhebayeb (IRE) (Dark Angel (IRE)) out of Drumcliffe Dancer (IRE) by Footstepsinthesand (GB)
Eligible for the Retired Racehorse Project's
THOROUGHBRED MAKEOVER COMPETITION!

16 plus hands. He last worked on 12/27/25 and retired with arthritis in both front fetlocks and a right knee chip. These do not affect his soundness in his current flatwork training. X-rays are available.

Cathkin is a graded stakes earner showing in the Hollywood Derby. He also has raced in the Del Mar Handicap and Ky Turf Cup Stakes. He is an earner of over $512,000.

Cathkin was bred and raced once in Ireland then found his way across the pond where he proved to be a hard worker and winner. That work ethic is carrying through to his next career – Cathkin puts full effort into his rides, learns quickly, and understands the difference between forward arena work and leisurely hacking. Cathkin is athletic and will need an experienced rider. With joint maintenance, he could be an excellent mid level sport partner. We could also see him loving life as a pleasure riding/trails partner – though he can wow if asked, he’s also happy to relax.

Cathkin is very well behaved on the ground and is respectful of his handlers. He walks nicely on a lead rope and doesn’t seem looky or spooky. He is currently turning out in a pasture with one quiet gelding and is a peaceful, gentle pasture mate. He remains quiet in his stall and doesn’t bother his neighbors. Cathkin currently wears  a sheet under 50 degrees, a light blanket under 40 and a midweight under 35. Next year he should be better acclimated to winter (is from Florida).  He has held weight very well this winter.

He should be suitable for any non-racing discipline. A PPE is recommended for a jumping career.
