16 hands. He last worked on 2/2/25 and retired with right front fetlock minor arthritis and left front fetlock arthritis. He also has some swelling in the right hind fetlock from an old injury; the swelling is not in the joint and is not an issue. He will need his teeth floated in early fall.
Atone has shown himself to be a true champion as he won the 2023 Pegasus World Cup and earned over $1.5 million! He was ranked 64th in earnings in 2023.
Atone settled in well to our farm and is proving himself to be a champion in his second career as well. His first ride showed all the athleticism expected as well as honesty and a willingness to learn that bode very well for his transition to pleasure riding. He was quiet for a leg-up mount, rode forward and balanced in the arena with auto lead changes and quick recognition of cues for gait changes, and did well on a solo walk down the lane after working. Atone will focus on standing at the mounting black, walking over poles and slowing his canter in his next rides.
Atone is well behaved for all things on the ground – walking on a lead rope, standing the vet and farrier, blanketing, grooming, tying with supervision, feed time and turnout. Kind and patient, though he does like to have something to chew on if standing for longer periods of time – hay, the end of a leadrope, etc.
You will quickly fall in love with this handsome, personable, intelligent fellow – he should fit in to any farm accustomed to caring for Throughbreds.
Atone should be suitable for flat work and possibly low level jumping. A PPE is recommended for an athletic career.
