16 hands. He last worked on 11/20/24 and retired with a tear in his right front suspensory ligament 11/2024.
He is turning out with another gelding and upon first meeting, made fast friends. He is now able to start slowly back under saddle at a walk and slow trot. Increase this gradually over the next few weeks and by summer, he will be ready for the canter.
Candy was castrated on 2/6/25.
Candy is settling into retirement well and learning to settle. He is quiet in his stall and doesn’t bother his neighbors. He can be a stubborn horse on the ground. He likes to plant his feet when heading out to the field, but with an encouraging pat on the neck he moves along. He is a kind horse that enjoys people and playing with his buddy. He is well mannered for grooming, and we haven’t noticed any vices.
He was well behaved under saddle and was sound at the walk and trot. He didn’t mind standing at the mounting block. He will need guidance on calmly walking away from the mounting block, but this should resolve in a few rides. He settled quickly and did well listening to his rider. He stood well for tacking up. He seems intelligent and will make a nice prospect to learn together and see how far he can take you.
He stood well for the vet and farrier.
Candy should be suitable for any flat discipline later this summer. For a more athletic use, a PPE is highly recommended.
