Growing every day! He cannot be started under saddle until he is at least 2.5 years old, December 2026. He has a misalignment in his right hock. We do have x-rays. He is currently sound and needs to be allowed to develop before being started under saddle. It is hoped that Arthur will be sound for trails and possibly flatwork. He will certainly be suitable for liberty work and in-hand obstacles. He is not registered.
Arthur is an intelligent and engaged horse who bonds closely with his daily handlers. He loves having his person lay down to nap with him. He walks well on a lead rope and is respectful of his surroundings and people. He loves being groomed with a soft curry (especially his belly!), stands quietly to have his blanket put on, and is easy to halter. He gets his feet picked daily and stands well but not perfectly for the farrier. He is currently practicing with fly spray and baths.
Arthur is very polite at feed time. He currently eats breakfast in his run-in shed, and politely walks next to his food without crowding, to his eating station.
Arthur is extremely brave and loves exploring new places with a handler he trusts. He forges through new paths in the woods and will pause to think, then willing moves along. He does not mind leaving the barn or his friends – when with his person, they have all his attention. He is not worried by nature – birds, squirrels, random noises or uneven terrain are not challenging – and he can be trusted to stay with his handler even if startled (unseen traffic on a nearby road, etc.).
Arthur enjoys pasture time and is the leader of his herd. We haven’t noticed any vices.
Arthur’s adopter must be experienced with unstarted two year olds and must commit to waiting until he is at least 2.5 years of age before starting him under saddle.
