16 hands. He last worked on 4/18/24 and was retired. He has a history of a bowed tendon, but we do not know the date this occurred. It is set and he is sound. He does have fibrotic myopathy which is very similar to stringhalt. This doesn’t limit him, but does involve a visible gait irregularity.
Fidelio is a gem! His kindness, courage in new settings, cooperative attitude and general good sense cannot be overstated. He is fabulous on trails with a buddy or alone – a cold-drink-in-one-hand kind of horse, at a walk or trot. His quiet demeanor is not all “whoah” – Fidelio has great energy when you ask for it – a fun, forward trot and an immediate return to the walk upon request, even in an open field. On his first trail ride with us, Fidelio led the way over a bridge, past a scary equipment shed, and past round bales with plastic covers flapping in the breeze – never even paused.
Because of his fibrotic myopathy, Fidelio’s canter is best reserved for pleasure riding, where he can choose the lead he is most comfortable on.
Fidelio meshes well with other quiet geldings. He is happy out 24/7 with shelter and is also comfortable in a stall for part of the day. He stands very quietly for the vet and farrier and is respectful of his handlers. He enjoys his grooming sessions and baths and is a pleasure to have in the barn.
