15 year old thoroughbred mare

by NORTH PROSPECT (Mr. Prospector)

bred in Minnesota

Second Stride Inc. Kentucky 501 (c) (3) Not for profit organization for retired thoroughbred racehorses

16.2+ hands. No Storm Cat lines in her pedigree. 4 wins and over $40,000 in earnings. Retired with front knee chip issues long ago. A beautifully built mare that was used to hack around the farm and produce Anglo foals. Huge shoulder and hip, lovely neck tie-in and a classic face. Nice bone size.

Her knees have some slight reduction in range of motion but she does not appear sore or lame on them. She traveled well and quite nicely for our vet check. The knees will reduce her longevity in a sport career, so she would probably be best suited for a low expectation home. A lesson horse or starter level type horse. If used quite a bit or at higher levels, she will likely need knee injections from time to time.

On a recent ride she went fabulous at all three gaits, including through a grid of colored ground poles and a small vertical caveletti. She holds a natural, steady rhythm, and she has 3 nice, sweepy, hunter type gaits. She's brave and bold to the ground poles, even between jump standards, and really loves a job.

She's a fun, big, attractive mare who wants to please and be pampered. A little fussy for grooming and tacking, but very obedient under saddle. She appears very appropriate for an amateur who has lessons or guidance to help during the transition and learning period of a new adoption.
