Wow! Thanks to Connie Sandusky, Jean Amick, Kathy Stim, Joan Thompson, Amy Seiler, Abbie Binzer and Hannah Binzer for all of their help making The 3rd Annual HATS & HORSES BOURBON DINNER, April 21, 2011 at the Bristol Bar & Grille in Prospect, Kentucky a huge success!
The raffle table went over great - we sold raffle tickets for $5 or 5 for $20 and had drawings every 15 minutes. It seemed like by the time we tracked down the winning ticket, it was time for the next drawing, so that kept things very busy. Abbie and Hannah, daughters of Second Stride Adopter Eva Binzer, kept busy walking around with signs reminding people when the silent auction closed, telling them about the raffle tickets, selling raffle tickets, and helping us find the winning tickets. They kept coming to the table with lots of cash for people asking for raffle tickets! Someone put Derby hats on them at some point in the evening. The Bristol donated two $50 gift certificates that we used as a “Grand Prize” in the raffle drawing. At the end of the night, we put all the winning raffle tickets back in the basket, so everyone who bought tickets had a chance to win.
The silent auction was set up beautifully! Well done Connie and Jean! The high ticket item was the Zenyatta painting by Jaime Corum. The Equine Joint Package and Exam donated by Dr. Northrop and some other lovely art pieces also sold well.
Some items were held out of the auction including a print of Mine That Bird crossing the finish line at Churchill Downs to win the Kentucky Derby, and a head shot of Zenyatta. We are going to have trainer Chip Woolley sign the Mine That Bird print and Mike Smith sign the Zenyatta print. Lovely prints of Genuine Risk and Easy Goer/Sunday Silence signed by Charlie Whittingham will be available soon on eBay, along with the Mine That Bird and Zenyatta prints and some other racing memorabilia.
We had a huge turnout for the event including many big names in our horse community. Nina Bonnie, founder of the Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center, bought raffle tickets and was the winning bid on a 60 day supply of Equithrive supplement. Megan Northrop, Dr Northrop’s wife, was the winning bid on the Equine Spa Package. Tracey Corey, an upper level event rider and Second Stride Adopter, came out to support us. Mr. and Mrs. Lilly were there, as well as Martha and John Lambert, Irene Lampton, Del and Larry Wilson, Toni Hindle - our van driver and rehab person extraordinaire, and many, many more!
Thanks to Madam Foo Foo Couture and Lisa Rodemier for a $250 donation from the sale of Derby Hats at this event!
Thanks again to everybody who attended this event and all our volunteers!
