2016: THANK-YOU to Give Local Louisville for hosting "24 Hours of Giving" this fall, helping us raise $9188.20 in donations and bonuses for retired racehorses!


2016: THANK-YOU to the Oldham County Community Foundation for a grant to Second Stride of $2,625! These funds are being used to sponsor two new arrivals at Second Stride, LEAK HUNTER, who came in needing specialized veterinary work and 24 hour care, and RAILROAD ROY.

2016: THANK-YOU to the Charles Jacob Elder Foundation for a donation of $4000 for the care and transition of our retired thoroughbred racehorses! This donation will allow us to support more needy horses over the harsh Kentucky winter.

2016: SKYCHAI RACING strikes again! We received a $1,500 donation from them for the care and transition of their horse, TWELVE OZ CURLIN! Know how you can tell a winning syndicate? They take care of their horses, and others!


THANK YOU to our loyal donors and to the loyal caretakers of our transitioning race horses! We hit the 75 unique donors mark during 24 hours of giving with GIVE LOCAL LOUISVILLE, making the maximum tier for bonuses to be divided among the organizations with the most unique donations in the 24 hour period! We'd like to give a round of applause to these donors for coming through on short notice and making this the best fall fundraiser we have ever participated in, with donations and bonuses totaling $9188.20. Our gratitude goes out to everyone who shared our links and helped spread the news - we couldn't have done it without you!

THANK-YOU to 502 Snap’d Photography for covering the event, outrider Lee Lockwood for organizing the event, and Colleen Walker who bid on and won the right for her and some of her friends to take a spin with their horses around the track at Churchill Downs. This was a major fundraiser for us that also created some extra special buzz for our cause!

2016: The INDIANA HORSEMEN'S BENEVOLENT & PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION generously donated $5000 to SECOND STRIDE to help support and re-train retired thoroughbred racehorses. THANK-YOU INDIANA HBPA!



2016: The ASPCA generously donated $5000 to SECOND STRIDE to help support the training of 15 rescued Thoroughbreds we took on in January. One of these is 3 year old thoroughbred filly SS NICE NICOLE, who progressed in training from a feral, unbroke herd member to a brave riding horse. As of June 2016, all 15 have been placed in new homes! THANK-YOU ASPCA!


OUR BIG DERBY WEEK 2016 FUNDRAISER IS NOW IN THE HISTORY BOOKS, HELD MONDAY MAY 2nd at MOLLY MALONE'S in the Highlands, Louisville, Kentucky!

10% of all sales from the evening will be donated by Molly Malone's to Second Stride Inc. 100% of all donations and bids on auction items go to the care and transition of retired Thoroughbred race horses.

JANUARY 2016: A very generous Second Stride supporter, Selena Pape, has done the "Unthinkable" and allowed us to have a winter fundraiser to help support all the rescue horses we brought in, January 2016. She donated her upper level event horse "Unpinkable" as a fundraiser for our program, and we're thrilled to report that UNPINKABLE has been SOLD!

The 4th annual Molly Malone's and Second Stride DERBY BENEFIT PARTY! was held Monday, April 27, 2015 at MOLLY MALONE'S in the Highlands, Louisville, KY. It was a kick off to Derby week in style! There were live and silent auction items, many with racing related themes. Celebrity racing guests! Goldmark Media Ventures unveiled the exciting new movie trailer for the Triple Crown movie HEART, HOPE AND GLORY!

Our first SPRING FUNDRAISER of 2015, 6th annual PONY TALES, was held March 31st, 2015 at BISTRO 42 in Prospect, KY. It was a fun time of great food, cocktails, and silent auctions, bringing our horse show community and race community together for a coming out party to kick off the local show and race seasons - CLICK HERE FOR A RECAP OF ALL THE FUN!


"OUR ANNUAL DERBY WEEK VIP PARTY"! sponsored by MOLLY MALONE'S, raised more than $20,000 for Second Stride in 2013 - and was run exclusively by our dedicated volunteer supporters!

THE 2014 Molly Malone's / BETAMERICA DERBY VIP PARTY WAS HELD APRIL 28th. The tally is in, and despite the horrible weather we still managed to raise almost $19,000 for the horses of our program! This is proof that our supporters are real Champions in heart and spirit - a little intense weather and tornadic activity will not hold back a group of Thoroughbred Lovers! FEBRUARY 2015: Many thanks to the organizers, competitors and supporters of DANCING WITH PROSPECT STARS, February 21, 2015, where JENNI HEBEL competed on behalf of our Second Stride retired thoroughbred racehorses, raising over $3500!

JANUARY 2015: Many Thanks to Ally B. and Ashby E. of Holy Cross High School for organizing as their senior project a fundraiser at UPTOWN ART on Sunday, January 25th, 2015 in Louisville Kentucky to benefit Second Stride! 50% of the proceeds for the night was donated for the care and transition of our horses. The event was a SELL OUT!

DECEMBER 2014: Second Stride Inc. Would like to give humble thanks to: The Patricia Neils Boulter Memorial Fund. This donation will enable us to reach out to more horses in need and provide much needed program resources during our winter season, when inclement and severe weather causes the highest need and expenses for our program, and fundraisers are not active until spring.

Patricia Neils Boulter was among many things, an avid equestrian with a love for horses, art and dressage. Her son generously made this donation a possibility for our horses. Thank you Ed!

JULY 2014: Second Stride is now able to hire a horse manager/trainer, made possible by a generous grant from the ASPCA. This grant will allow us to open our doors to even more equines in need! THANK-YOU AGAIN ASPCA for grants to Second Stride!

THOROUGHBRED CHARITIES OF AMERICA raises and distributes money to charitable organizations in Thoroughbred rescue, retirement and adoption; research; backstretch and farm employee programs; and therapeutic riding programs.

BLUE HORSE CHARITIES is funded by contributions from buyers and sellers at FASIG-TIPTON auctions. All contributions are matched equally by Fasig-Tipton. In addition to granting funds, Blue Horse Charities strives to educate owners about the suitable options for Thoroughbreds at the conclusion of their racing careers.

TCA and BLUE HORSE CHARITIES have supported Second Stride since 2008.


MAY 2014: Skychai Racing's HARRY'S HOLIDAY paid it forward by pledging 1% of his Derby earnings to help Second Stride horses! Also, GENERAL A ROD donated a portion of Skychai Racing's earnings from the advertising logo on his jockey's pants for the Kentucky Derby! Thank you SKYCHAI RACING!


APRIL 2014: THE TRACK THAT GIVES BACK! Thank You TURFWAY PARK for your very generous grant of over $3000 to help our horses. We were delighted to open the mail box and find such a generous gift to our program's horses, allowing us to fill a few more stalls with some new velvet muzzles!

MARCH 2014: THANK-YOU to the wonderful folks at VisitPittsburgh.com who want to show off their beautiful city, and help retired thoroughbreds!

This great organization donated FOUR Pittsburgh Steelers Club Level tickets AND a Parking Pass for the 2014 game vs. The Cincinnati Bengals at Heinz Field. (Date will be released when schedule is published.) As if that was not enough, they also included Steelers Official Fan Merchandise for the ultimate Steelers Fan!




DECEMBER 2012: SECOND STRIDE WAS APPROVED! for a grant from ASPCA to pay for a run-in shed at our Henry County location! The shelter is finished and ready for our horses to enjoy in Kentucky's winter cold.

DECEMBER 2012: BUFF BRADLEY & HIS CHAMPION GROUPIE DOLL
generously donated the halter that Groupie Doll wore all year, through FIVE GRADED STAKES WINS including her big win in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Championships! This halter (with farm visit) was auctioned on EBAY, had 11 bidders and 34 bids, with a final bid of $650. Thank-you to all who bid, Groupie, Brass Hat and connections for your generosity!

DECEMBER 2012: On closing day at Churchill Downs this fall, Second Stride Inc. presented JILL BYRNE with the 2012 SECOND STRIDE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD.

JANUARY 2012: Thank you to all the members and friends who attended The 2012 MSEDA GALA held January 14 at Spindletop Hall in Lexington, Kentucky. There was an auction at this event with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Second Stride. As a result we received a $7,500 check from Mid-South Eventing & Dressage Association!
